There’s a moment in every seeker’s life when the world they’ve built—of success, identity, achievement—begins to feel hollow.
For David, a world-renowned heart surgeon from New York, that moment had been growing silently for years. Behind the sharp suits and applause in medical conferences was a man aching to see God. Not as an idea, not as a belief—but as a direct experience.
See God With Open Eyes is the opening to the sacred journey of the I Am Consciousness series. It is the beginning of David’s transformation—not into someone new, but into someone true.
This book is where the spiritual fire is lit, and where the journey inward begins.
The Arrival
David lands at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. But this is not just a physical arrival—it’s the beginning of a spiritual unraveling.
He has waited two years for a response from Swamiji’s ashram in the Himalayas, and now, finally, the letter has come: You may visit.
Most would dismiss such a journey. After all, he had everything—a career many would envy, prestige, a reputation for saving lives.
But something deeper inside him wasn’t satisfied with saving hearts.
He wanted to know the heart of Reality.
The Journey of Shravanam Begins
David is met at the airport by two figures who will shape his early steps on this journey: Uchit, a humble and grounded local guide, and Yogiji, a quiet monk from the ashram.
Together, they set off on a 14-hour train ride to Dehradun, followed by a three-hour drive to the foothills of the Himalayas—where Swamiji’s ashram awaits.
But what David doesn’t know is that this journey is not just about reaching the ashram—it is the beginning of a deeper inquiry.
Yogiji’s role is very clear: to introduce David to Brahman before he meets Swamiji.
Who—or What—is Brahman?
As the train chugs through the Indian countryside, Yogiji begins to speak—not from a book, but from direct knowing. He shares the ancient truths of the Upanishads, weaving them with stories, metaphors, and the scenery around them.
Brahman, he says, is not a being. Not a God sitting on a throne. Not even a force.
Brahman is pure Consciousness—unchanging, formless, all-pervasive.
It is the substratum of all things, the Self of all selves.
“You’re looking for God as if He’s hiding somewhere,” Yogiji says to David.
“But what if what you are looking for… is what you are looking with?”
The teachings begin to pierce David’s logical mind. Yogiji speaks of the illusory nature of the body and mind, and how identification with them is the root of suffering.
For the first time, David hears what the rishis have declared for thousands of years:
Tat Tvam Asi — You Are That.
Shravanam — The Power of Listening
This book is based on the first stage of Advaita Vedanta: Shravanam—the sacred act of listening.
But this isn’t passive hearing. Shravanam is the opening of the heart and mind to truths that shake your foundations.
Yogiji doesn’t try to convince David. He simply speaks the truth, and allows it to land.
The journey becomes a classroom. The silence between words becomes the teacher. The space in David’s mind begins to clear.
And yet, there is still a long way to go.
Arrival at the Ashram
By the end of the journey, David is no longer the same man who boarded the train in Delhi. His questions have deepened. His resistance has softened. And his longing has intensified.
When he arrives at the ashram, a serene space nestled in nature, he is checked in by Ramlal, a senior monk. His guide Uchit joins him, and they settle in, awaiting the moment they will finally meet Swamiji—the master who said nothing outwardly, but who had already begun guiding David from within.
Why This Book Matters
See God With Open Eyes is not a book about answers. It is a book about the right questions.
Who am I?
What is God?
What is real?
If I am not the body or mind… what remains?
These questions are not meant to be answered with logic—but with stillness.
Reading this book is like sitting on that train with David and Yogiji—feeling the movement of the world outside, and the stillness of truth rising inside.
For the Modern Seeker

It will not give you dogma. It will not promise quick enlightenment.
